1. Anchorage may be obtained in a position about half a
cable off the southern shore of Motafiord, with the
northern side of Helliur in line with Goltur bearing about
45°. Good holding ground. There is much room to swing at
the anchor.
2. Anchorage may be obtained by vessels with local knowledge
westward of Arne with the northern extremity of that island
bearing 85° and Arne Church, in the south-western corner of
the bay, bearing 202°. But with northerly and north-easterly
winds the anchorage is exposed. The fairway, leading to the
anchorage, being only 1/2 cable wide, so great caution is
necessary here.
3. Anchorage, sheltered from easterly and southerly winds,
may be taken off Vagavik, in a depth of about 16 fathoms,
fine sand and mud. The anchorage is dangerous with
northerly winds which set in a heavy sea.
4. Anchoring is prohibited in the dredged channel and in
an area about 1/2 mile either side as shown on the charts.
Anchoring is recommended in the vicinity of a position
5 1/2 miles NW of the harbour entrance, in a depth of 14.5
to 16.5 m /8 to 9 fm/.
5. Anchorage is available in Malzwin. Kijkduin Light in
line with Harssens Brakwater Light bearing 253 1/2° leads
S of Bollen shoal between 1 1/2 and 1 2/3 miles from
Harssens breakwater head.
