best direction for the town’s development or help to choose one of the several alternatives of this direction. The widest survey of the develop-ment possibilities of the town is to be found in the direction plan which emerged from an analysis of a number of factors which influence devel-opment and either further it or stand in its way. In recent years Polish specialists have taken up the theoretic principles of the analysis of the so called “barriers” which oppose the town’s tendency to develop, and they also study the principles which govern the choice between possible alternative Solutions. In the method of planning directions it is very important to lean on a sound estimate of the values and the drawbacks of the geographic milieu. The validity of this estimate depends of the precision with which knowledge has been taken of the existing situation and of the dynamism of phenomena. In working out this estimate, town-planning specialists must have the help of specialists in other spheres of knowledge, only then will mistakes resulting from incompetence be really avoided.
Accurate studies of the region should also serve as indication for every morę detailed town-planning. Such indications being an extract of the generał plan should be available to those who work on a given project of an ensemble of buildings or even on a project of one building. Similar indications ought to result from the geomorphological map and they should be available for physiographic studies, i.e. for those who classify the building value of a given area for a projected development.
