FUTURĘ PROSPECTS

In 2020, the demand for marinę distillates may be as much as 200-250 million tonnes annually - 0.1 % S globally.

The current global demand for marinę distillates is about 30 million tonnes annually. The 0.1% limit in Emission Control Areas (ECA) will increase the demand to around 45-50 million tonnes by 2015. In 2020, newly built ships will emit up to 10 to 35% less C0₂ than the ships currently in sen/ice, and the Energy Efficiency Design lndex (EEDI) will be a stimulus for further reduction to as little as 50%. Scrubbers and LNG may be an essential option after 2020.

At least 30-40% of newbuildings will be fitted with EGR or SCR by 2016. Morę than 1 out of 10 newbuildings in the forthcoming 6 years will be delivered with gas fuelled engines.

Ballast water treatment systems will be installed on at least half of the world fleet.
