THE PURE ROTATIONAL SPECTRUM OF OPC1 AS PREPARED THROUGH THE USE OF A NEW ELECTRIC DISCHARGE NOZZLE

A clectric discharge nozzle s i rai lar to that used in many other laboratories has been built and coupled to a microwave Fourier transform cavity spectrometer in order to generate short lived spccies for high resolution microwave spectroscopic studies. Details on the study of OPC1, the first test moleculc prepared using this new apparatus, will be pre-sented. To datę, transitions due to the OP*^łSCl isotopomer have been accurately measured and analysed: a few transitions due to tlie 0P³⁷C1 isotopomer have also been observed in Iow resolution scan.s and work in this direction is continuing. A search for rotational transitions due to both ^,80-containing isotopomers is also planned. Ultiraately, the isotopic data will be used to detcrraine an ex per i men tal OPCl molecular geometry.

The only high resolution recordings measured to datę (0P³⁵C1 transitions) show hyperfine splittings due to both nuclear quadrupole and nuclear spin-rotation interactions. These splittings have been analysed to yield precise quadrupole eoupling constants for the chłonne nucleus and precise spin-rotation eoupling constants for the chlorine and phosphorus nuclci. Results from the currently proceeding analysis of these constants will be presented.
