AUhuugh, with a fewexccptions, the penis psawiuusty given have, in some shape or other, appeare-d in books published on ringing, the originaSs of most of them are lo be found i 11 Annable‘s note-book, whercin they were ntosl probably enteied bet we en t lit* years 1735 to 1745. f namiot, howcver, suppose that all of them were composed by Aunable, though il sccms very probable. that most of them were his wrak.
Il is at any linie very difficult to fmd out w ho was the first composer of any particular 720; and many such penis are constantly being re-composed by persons who have never serii the original pealś. This is, no doubt, the case with the fnllowing peal containing 42 singles, whicli 1 hrsi recewed froin Mr. N. J. PitsLow. of Salfron Walden, who, althuugh he had composed it, did not wish loctaimii nsan otiginal roi n post tion. I have no doubt thal ihts peal was hrst cumpnseJ many years ago. and Isconstantly being reproduced.
