KT Method

Patient position: neutral standing with
the lumbar spine straightened.

Remove backing from the central
portion of the tape.

Apply severe (75%) available tension
to the middle 1/2 of the tape
horizontally to the interspinal
ligaments of lumbar spine.

Ask the patient to move into trunk
flexion and apply the distal ends of
the “I” tape with no tension.

Repeat the process for applying the
first strip of tape. Direct the second
piece of tape obliquely to the first from
the 10 o'clock to the 4 o'clock
positions.

The central portion of each piece of
tape should be over the localized
affected spinous process.

Repeat the process for applying the
first two strips of tape. Direct the third
piece of tape obliquely to the first from
the 2 o'clock to the 8 o'clock
positions.

The central portion of each piece of
tape should be over the localized
affected spinous process.
