Editorial
In the July 2008 issue of the
Journal of
Pharmaceutical Sciences (JPharmSci
TM
), the first
in a new series of Commentaries entitled ‘‘Clinical
Trials and Translational Medicine’’ was pub-
lished. This first Commentary and future Com-
mentaries in this series will be focused on
providing the readers of
JPharmSci
TM
with
clinical trial information pertinent to drug deliv-
ery/formulation technologies and to PK/PD con-
cepts. The progression of novel drug delivery/
formulation technologies and novel PK/PD con-
cepts from the ‘‘laboratory bench into clinical
trials’’ is a very important measure of their
potential utility in clinical practice. Therefore,
the perspectives and insights of experts regarding
the potential success or failure of these novel
drug delivery/formulation technologies and novel
PK/PD concepts during their clinic development
will be of great interest to the readers of
JPharmSci
TM
.
In order to provide this information to the
readers of
JPharmSci
TM
, Associate Editors Jenny
Chien and Rodney Ho will be writing semiannual
updates to their Commentary published in the
July 2008 issue of
JPharmSci
TM
. They have also
identified experts to write Commentaries on the
clinical trials of specific drug delivery/formulation
technologies and specific PK/PD concepts. Several
of these invited Commentaries should be pub-
lished later in 2009. Finally, Associate Editors
Chien and Ho have been working for the past year
with staff from Wiley Interscience to develop a
web-based
‘‘searchable
database’’
containing
information about the ongoing clinical trials of
novel drug delivery/formulation technologies and
novel PK/PD concepts.
I am very pleased to report here that this
database with informative analytics and graphi-
cal summarization is now available to the readers
of
JPharmSci
TM
. This database can be accessed
directly from the home page of the journal’s web-
site http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/
117935713/grouphome/home.html by clicking on
the banner entitled ‘‘Drug Delivery: Clinical
Trials Database.’’ Finally, I would like to take
this opportunity to congratulate Associate Editors
Chien and Ho and the staff at Wiley Interscience
for a job well done.
