Editorial
Please find listed below ‘‘The Ten Most Highly
Cited Articles’’ and ‘‘The Ten Most Frequently
Downloaded Articles’’ in the
Journal of Pharma-
ceutical Sciences (JPharmSci
TM
) in 2008. Note
that in tabulating these lists we considered all
papers published in
JPharmSci
TM
irrespective of
their date of publication. The journal’s Editorial
Team feels that this information will be of
great interest to the authors who publish their
manuscripts in
JPharmSci
TM
since it reflects in
‘‘citation metrics’’ and ‘‘usage metrics’’ the pre-
vailing interests of the journal’s readers.
I am very pleased to report that the impact of
JPharmSci
TM
, as judged by ‘‘citation metrics,’’
increased significantly in 2007 (impact factor
¼
2.94) as compared to 2006 (impact factor
¼ 2.23). It
is equally important to mention that the journal’s
impact as judged by ‘‘usage metrics’’ (i.e., article
downloads) continues to grow significantly in
2008. For example, papers published in
JPharm
Sci
TM
from 1996 to 2008 were downloaded 337,090
times from the journal’s website in 2008. This
represents a 6.5% increase in the number of ‘‘full
text’’ downloads compared to 2007. In 2008 the
papers in the ‘‘Ten Most Frequently Downloaded
Articles’’ (see below) were downloaded from 952 to
1316 times. Finally, it is interesting to note that
papers published in
JPharmSci
TM
from 1912 to
1995 were downloaded 52,895 times from the
journal’s website in 2008. In my opinion, this
statistic reflects the ‘‘long term impact’’ that
research results published in
JPharmSci
TM
have
on the pharmaceutical sciences.
