SETTING INITlAL IGNITION TIMING ON 1996 AND LATER 3.0&4.3 LITER G.M.
ENGINES
Current procedures for setting initial ignition timing on 1996 and later 3.0 and 4.3 liter G.M. engines as
outlined in the Service Repair Manual and Dealer Letters has proven to be insufficient in some cases.
Because of this Service Engineering is recommending that ONLY the Rinda timing adapter be used to set, or
check ignition timing on 3.0 and 4.3 liter G.M. engines that are built from 1996 thru 1998 as of this writing.
Instructions are included with the timing adapter. To order the RINDA TIMING ADAPTER P/N 95009:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF THE RINDA TIMING ADAPTER
1. Unplug the four-wire connector on the distributor housing.
2. Plug the timing adapter into the distributor housing where you removed the four-wire
connector.
3. Plug the four-wire connector into the timing adapter.
4. Attach the alligator clip, located on the timing adapter’s red wire to battery positive.
5. Start the engine and set the base timing to “0” degrees BTDC for the 4.3L engine and (“8”
degrees for the 3.0L engine) at idle.
6. Remove the timing adapter harness after engine shutdown and reconnect the original
four-wire connector to the distributor.
Timing is now complete.
NOTE;
