COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE OF ADJECTIVES

WYŻSZY I NAJWYŻSZY PRZYMIOTNIKÓW
Przymiotniki dzielą się na krótkie (jedno- i dwusylabowe) oraz długie (trzysylabowe i dłuższe). Od
tego zależy sposób ich stopniowania. W przypadku niektórych przymiotników dwusylabowych
traktowanie ich jako krótkie lub długie jest zwyczajowe, więc należy zapamiętać do jakiej kategorii
należą.
np.: boring  ma dwie sylaby, lecz stopniuje się go jak przymiotniki długie.
Ogólnie przymiotniki można podzielić na trzy grupy:
I. przymiotniki krótkie, których stopień wyższy i najwyższy tworzy się dodając końcówki
-er i  est (czasem wymaga to drobnych zmian w pisowni  patrz opis pod tabelkÄ…);
II. przymiotniki długie, które stopniuje się nie poprzez końcówki, lecz stawiając przed nimi
słowa more (odpowiadające naszemu bardziej) oraz the most (nasze naj, najbardziej);
III. przymiotniki nieregularne, których stopień wyższy i najwyższy należy nauczyć się na
pamięć, gdyż nie stosują się do żadnych reguł. Na szczęście jest ich bardzo niewiele.
