TOPIC / THEME: Function 1 v 1 - Shielding and Turning
DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE:
A functional practice designed to improve the player's ability to shield, turn and exploit the space behind the defender
ORGANISATION:
Grid size: 20m x 15m
8 players per grid; 4 at each end of the grid
Attackers with a ball each
A goal positioned at defending end of the grid
One Defender and one Attacker starts in the grid
The defender must mark the attacker from behind
The ball is accurately passed to the attacking player, who screens the ball or turns of his first touch
Players rotate to the end of their groups
Player's roles will change on the Coach's signal
KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:
Create space
Attacker's positions body between the defender and the ball
Observe defender's position, by being on the half turn
Make decision to turn first time or screen, roll and turn
Exploit the space beyond the defender by passing, dribbling or accelerating away from the defender
