TOPIC / THEME: Function - 1v1 “Attacking an Opponent”

DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE:
A functional practice designed to improve an attackers ability to beat a defender in a 1 v1 situation while running at a defender
ORGANISATION:
	Grid size: 20m x 15m with a 3m channel between grids 2 grids,8 players per grid; groups of four positioned at each end of the grid A goal and balls positioned at defending end of the grid One group starts in the role as Servers, the other the role as Attackers The Defender plays the ball to the Attacker and closes down the attacker The Attacker tries to exploit space behind the defender and give an end product, shot at goal Attackers and defenders rotate to the back of their own group Defender is initially passive and becomes more active as the session progresses Players change roles on the Coach's signal

KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:

1 v 1 `Attacking an Opponent' Exploit Space, get your 1^st touch out of body, into space and make up ground Assess the defenders position, angle and distance of approach Keep the ball close to your body as you approach the defender Use manoeuvre to beat the defender Exploit the space behind To beat an Opponent the Attacker must: Deceive the defender by moving the ball Deceive the defender with a body feint or step over Accelerate past the defender and exploit the space created Give an end product

NOTES:

Let the action flow a number of times before selecting a key factor to correct The defender cannot close down the attacker until they take their 1st touch The defenders passing must accurate and weighted
