TOPIC / THEME - Turning in a 1 v 1 (+1) practice.
To develop the technique of turning in a skilled practice, to play forward.
DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL)
Can you turn to get to the end zone? (with the use of the end man or server)
Can you bring the player towards (closer) to create space and turn to go in behind or go far away to
Create space for the ball to be played in to the feet or across the body for the run.
Attacker can take a touch forward to try and get turned.
ORGANISATION:
12 players
3 in each 15 x 20m area
End player serving the ball to the central player who is marked by the defender
End player can move across his line or drop off to become deeper to give correct distance to the pass.
All this is to offer support to the central player
Defender is initially passive and becoming more active as session progresses
KEY FACTORS:
Observation of defenders position - make space to allow to receive
Create space - threaten the space beyond the defender - come off at an angle
Body shape is side on / turned as the ball is travelling
Decision to execute the technique of turning - 1st touch with inside or outside of foot
Give an end product - to pass or dribble
NOTES:
Look for opportunities and signals to play or run with the ball.
Situations of screening, disguise, passing and tuning will occur in this session.
Use both sides - right & left foot
When the defender becomes more active the attacker must become more mobile
