Bridget is not only obsesses about her love life, but also her weight, her journalist career and she has big tendency to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Bridget's friends and family are the supporting characters in her diary. Her best friends are Shazzer - feminist, Jude - highly successful business woman and Tom - gay man. They give her advice about her relationships, support when problems arise and help her to change lifestyle. Her mother is an overconfident, doting woman who is constantly trying to marry Bridget off to a rich, handsome man. Mainly that's why Bridget does stupid things, her mother drive her crazy.

The most fabulous thing about this books is that it reads like a diary- you could almost believe it's real, happening now. I think that the real strength of the book is that the character of Bridget is very recognizable. She's a reflection of a lot of women in her age, they are also looking for love, critical of their looks and figure, struggle to climb the career ladder. Her hopes and dreams that sometimes seem within reach but often feel so far away. Other fictional characters sometimes feel too perfect. Bridget isn't perfect. So that's why we feel like she is sitting near us and tells her story.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It's fascinating comedy, romance but also handbook. This book learns women how to accept their body, lifestyle and find happiness, but no only for female readers. 'Bridget Jones's Diary' can be a nice guide for men, a clue how to understand women.
