AUDIO UNIT INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
Customer Satisfaction : Countermeasure for customers complaining.
Description
This bulletin provides the procedure of audio unit inspection and replacement.
■ Symptom/Condition
Some cee´d (ED) 2010MY vehicles might experience various hardware malfunctions on audio units.
(e.g. ON/OFF button malfunction, Volume knob falling off or CD drive error).
■ Cause
Audio hardware
■ Countermeasure
Inspect the audio unit and replace if necessary according to the service procedure below.
Applicable Vehicles
■ Model: 2010MY, cee´d (ED), 5Door, Wagon, 3Door
■ Applicable vehicle production date range: May 20. 2009, to April 14. 2010
■ Applicable VIN range:
- 5 Door: U5YHC515AAL180690 ~ U5YHB511AAL229898

Service Procedure
1) Verify that the vehicle is affected one by identifying the VIN from the VIN range.
5.1 Audio unit checking procedure
■ Illumination check
■ ON/OFF button check
1) Turn the key to ACC ON position.
2) Turn the head light ON.
3) Switch the audio unit ON.
4) Check if all audio’s buttons are illuminated.
5) In case every audio illumination malfunction
occurs check the audio unit connector (A) M54-A
(illumination pins 2 and 7)
6) In case partially audio unit illumination
malfunction occurs follow with the audio assembly
replacement.
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC ON position.
2) Switch the audio unit ON by pressing the
ON/OFF button (B) and check the functionality.
3) Switch the audio unit OFF by pressing the
ON/OFF button (B).
4) Repeat the steps 2 and 3 5 times.
5) Start the engine.
6) Repeat the step 2 through 4.
7) In case the malfunction of the ON/OFF button
occurs remove the centeral fascia panel (C) and
repeat the steps 1 through 6.
Note)
- Remove the central fascia panel partially as seen
on the picture.
- To remove the central fascia panel use only SST
plastic tools to avoid damages.
8) If the malfunction does not occurs anymore relocate
the isolation pad on the central fascia panel according
to the pictures below.

■ Volume control knob functionality check
■ Other buttons
■ CD drive readability check
9) In case the ON/OFF buttons malfunction occurs after
removing of the central fascia panel inspect the audio
unit connectors and fuse before the audio unit
replacement.
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC ON position.
2) Turn the audio unit ON
3) Inspect the change of the sound level while
turning the volume knob (D) to the right and left
5 times.
4) In case the volume control knob malfunction
occurs follow with the audio assembly replacement.
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC ON position.
2) Turn the audio unit ON
3) Inspect all the remaining buttons function according
to the Kia cee’d 2010 MY owner’s manual chapter 4
section Audio.
4) In case the other buttons malfunction occurs
follow with the audio assembly replacement.
Note)
- For the test purpose use original commercialized
music CD.
- Copy protected, scratched or poor quality CD
might not be readable by audio unit CD drive.
- Readable CD files are:
- WMA files up to version 9.0
- MP3 files
- In cold weather conditions the CD reading might
be delay for 5 min.
- For more details check the Kia cee’d 2010 MY
owner’s manual chapter 4 section Audio.
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC ON position.
2) Insert CD into the CD slot (E).
3) Leave the CD to be read

■ Audio unit replacement
Note) Leave the CD in the audio unit until it starts
playing.
4) Eject the CD from the audio unit.
5) Repeat steps 2 through 4 5 times.
6) While CD is inserted turn the engine on.
7) Repeat the steps 2 through 4 5 times.
8) In case the CD drive malfunction occurs follow
with the audio assembly replacement.
1) Turn the ignition key to ACC ON position.
2) Turn the audio unit ON.
3) Insert the USB key or the iPod with the songs into
the USB hub.
Note)
In case of the USB key the songs formation are
supported:
- WMA files up to version 9.0
- MP3 files
4) Check the USB key or the iPod functionality by
pressing seek up and down buttons (F).
5) Unplug the USB key or the iPod.
6) Repeat the steps 3 through 5 2 times.
7) In case the USB key or the iPod malfunction
occurs inspect the wire harness between the USB
hub and audio unit before the audio unit replacement.

1) Replace the audio assembly according to the
applicable workshop manual.
While connecting all connectors make sure all
connectors clicks properly to its positions.
- Climate control connectors 2 EA (A)
- Central switch connectors 2 EA (B)
- Trip computer connectors 1 EA (C)
- USB Connector 1 EA (D)
- Audio Speaker line Connector 2 EA (E)
- Audio power line connector and remote control
connectors 1 EA (F)
- Antenna connector (G)
2) In case there is no respond plug out and plug in
connectors for checking the wiring connection.

Proper installation of connectors.
