Teachers notes
Level and module Hot Spot 2, Module 3
Target language Adjectives: comparative and superlative
Activity time 10 15 minutes
Organization Pairwork
Type of activity Board game
Preparation Print one copy of the playing board for each pair of students in your class.
Instructions 1 Divide your class into pairs, and give each pair a game board.
2 Tell the students that the sentences on the board each had a word
removed, although the first letter has been left in place. The rest of each
word is in the box at the top of their activity sheet.
3 Students play against each other to collect rows of three boxes on the
board. The three boxes can be vertical, horizontal or diagonal. They do
this by choosing any box, completing the sentence with the appropriate
word, and then writing their name in the box. They should also try to
prevent their partner from doing the same. As soon as one pupil has a
row of three boxes, they draw a line through those boxes. The game then
continues.
4 After 10 15 minutes ask the class to stop. Go through the answers, and
tell each pupil to award themselves points as follows:
For each correctly completed box, they award themselves 1 point.
For each row of three boxes, they award themselves 3 bonus points (but
only if all the boxes in that row have been completed correctly).
The winning pupil is the pupil in each pair with the most points.
