Internship is a great opportunity to gain professional experience. Today, more and more young people use this
method to enhance their CVs. Why wouldn't you give it a try?
The modern concept of internship essentially derives from the medieval apprenticeship, in which skilled laborers
would taught young people their trade and, in exchange, that person would agree to work for his master for a certain
length of time. Then, in formal terms, the internship is any official or formal program to provide practical experience for
beginners in an occupation or profession. Last but not least, it is also a form of employment that can substantially
increase your chances on the labour market.
The internship usually lasts about three months, but the time varies greatly depending on one's particular situation.
Job centres, at the request of the employer, may sometimes extend its duration. The trainee is usually assigned a
tutor who watches over the course of the intern that he is in charge of, plays the role of his or her guide and introduces
him or her to the principles of the company.
More and more often, internship is a part of the university curriculum. This reduces to a minimum the efforts you have
to take in order to fulfill all formal requirements needed. If your employer is not very strict, you probably will be able to
show little diligence and still have the internship marked as completed, but is it really worth it? Consider it an
opportunity to do and learn something interesting rather than a hassling drudgery.
The internship may be completed both on full-time and part-time basis. Indeed, most of the institutions offer unpaid
internships, but on the other hand you have an opportunity to gain experience and broaden competence in your field of
interest, as well as earn the recognition of the employer. Thus, the benefits are mutual. You can gain practical skills
and experience that you can put in your CV, the company gets you, together with your time and your abilities. Moreover,
if the employer likes you, chances are that after the internship he will offer you a regular job.
