INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADJUSTING VELOCITY GOVERNOR Page 4
Service Notes:
I. Ensure that engine systems, mechanical, electrical and fuel are within serviceable limits and unit is at
operating temperatures.
II.
Tachometer should be accurate and compatible with ignition system. Ref. Parts Service Gram FF-21.
III. Air filter element should be clean and air filter connected to engine.
ADJUSTING SCREW (B)
ADJUSTING BUSHING (A)
IV.
R.P.M. Adjust*: Remove locking screw from adjusting bushing (A). Hold adjusting screw (B) stationary
and turn adjusting bushing (A) clockwise to increase engine R.P.M. and counterclockwise to lower engine
R.P.M. Set to service manual specifications. Replace locking screw in closest hole, recheck R.P.M. load
engine by using tilt function and check for engine surge. If okay, install lockwire.
V.
Governor Surges: To adjust R.P.M. fluctuation (surge) turn adjusting screw B 1/4 turn clockwise. Turn
adjusting bushing (A) counterclockwise to adjust no load governed R.P.M. Repeat until R.P.M. is stable.
VI.
NOTE: If governor control is not sharp enough it can cause too great a variation in engine R.P.M.
between load and no load. If this is encountered performance may be sharpened by turning adjusting
bushing (A) 1/4 turn clockwise. Then turn adjusting screw (B) counterclockwise to aajust no load
R.P.M. Repeat this procedure until performance is satisfactory. If surging develops return to previous
settings until governor stabilizes. Recheck and lockwire adjustment.
*Normally only adjustment required.
