Subject: GSM V500 Refresh Display Brightness Settings

Problem
Service is aware of an issue identified during NPI analysis of the V500 Refresh
models. Some units returned with customer complaints of Display Main
Low/Dim Backlight or Software Faulty , were found to have issue were the
Display Brightness settings do not function properly. When the Display
Brightness is accessed in the menu (settings>initial setup>brightness) the
customer is able to adjust the level but there is no corresponding change in
display brightness. There may be a noticeable change from level 4 to level 5 but
no change after that and the settings will not save after power cycle.
Solution
The correct default Display Settings for all display types has been added to the
manufacturing flex on versions .074 and later. Completed

Customer Returns:
When servicing any V550 and V545 customer returns, regardless of the
customer complaint, then:
1. Confirm the phone is affected by this issue by attempting to adjust the
Display Brightness (settings>initial setup>brightness).

a. If phone does not exhibit this failure, then follow normal
troubleshooting techniques to repair the phone, per the customer
complaint.
2. Using an approved version of the PST Tool load the Display Settings
contained in the mini-flex located at the PCS site: (only if the flex version
to be programmed into the phone is lower than 074)
3. Confirm you can now adjust the Display Brightness (settings>initial
setup>brightness).
4. Follow normal troubleshooting techniques to repair the phone, per the
customer complaint.

5. Affected inventory of V550/V545 Seedstock should have the mini-flex
loaded. (only if the flex version to be programmed into the phone is lower
than 074)
Call Center Action:
When responding to Problem Product customer inquires on the GSM V550/V545
product, were the customer complains of Display Main Low/Dim Backlight or
Software Faulty , please inform the customer of this phone flex issue and direct
the customer to have their phone serviced per this FSB.
