The Morning After

Instructions: Convert the dialog to a paragraph of reported speech.

Dan: (sees that Bob is on his hands and knees) What are you doing, Bob?

Bob: I'm looking for my keys.

Dan: I have your car keys, Bob.

Bob: Why do you have them? And why are you in my house?

Dan: Because you were drunk last night, and I drove you home.

Bob: I can't believe it. I drank Pepsi all night!

Dan: You did, but you kept adding rum to it.

Bob: How did Marsha get home?

Dan: I took her home in your car.

Bob: Did you go into Marsha's house?

Dan: We had a quick drink in her kitchen while you slept in the car.

Bob: How could you have a drink with my fiancée?

Dan: She invited me.

Bob: Don't ever drink with my fiancée again!

Dan: I promise. I won't drink with her even if she begs me like she did last night.

Bob: Give me my keys, and don't come back.

Bob was on his hands and knees when Dan came into the room. Dan asked him what he was doing. Bob answered that he was looking for his keys. Dan told Bob that he had Bob's car keys. Bob asked Dan why he had them and why Dan was in his house. Dan explained that Bob had been drunk the night before and that he had driven Bob home. Bob exclaimed that he couldn't believe it because he had drunk Pepsi all night. Dan agreed but added that Bob had kept adding rum to it. Bob asked Dan how Marsha had gotten home. Dan explained that he had taken her home in Bob's car. Bob asked Dan if he had gone into Marsha's house. Dan admitted that they had had a quick drink in her kitchen while Bob slept in the car. Bob asked Dan how he could have a drink with his fiancée. Dan answered that she had invited him. Bob ordered Dan never to drink with his fiancée again. Dan promised and added that he wouldn't drink with her even if she begged him like she had done the night before. Bob told Dan to give him his keys and not to come back.
