OFFICIAL Good afternoon, how can I help you?

CUSTOMER I've lost my bag. I put it down somewhere in the market, and forgot about it.

OFFICIAL Well, don't worry, madam, it'll turn up. I'll just take down some details. Could you tell me your name, please?

CUSTOMER Yes, my name's Jill Fairfield.

OFFICIAL Jill Fairfield. Is that Mrs Fairfield?

CUSTOMER Ms Fairfield.

OFFICIAL OK, and your address?

CUSTOMER 32, Burn Road, Manchester.

OFFICIAL Burn Road, Manchester. OK, and your telephone number?

CUSTOMER 679 5453.

OFFICIAL Right and you say it was a bag that you lost?

CUSTOMER That's right.

OFFICIAL And you lost it in Chester market?

CUSTOMER That's correct. At about ten in the morning.

OFFICIAL And that was today, right?

CUSTOMER Yes.

OFFICIAL So, Thursday the twenty-first of July. And can you describe it to me?

CUSTOMER Well, it was large, square and it was made of black nylon.

OFFICIAL And was there anything in it?

CUSTOMER Yes, there was my purse, a calculator, an address book, a newspaper and a comb.

OFFICIAL Right, now, let me see. Was it this one?

CUSTOMER No, that's not mine.

OFFICIAL Is this yours?

CUSTOMER Yes, that's mine. Thank you very much.

CUSTOMER 13, Dock Lane, London.

OFFICIAL And your phone number?

CUSTOMER 75859.

OFFICIAL And when did you lose it?

CUSTOMER On the thirty-first of May around four in the afternoon, I must have left it on the train.

OFFICIAL And what was it like?

CUSTOMER It was made of red leather.

OFFICIAL Red leather! Was it... a man's coat, sir?

CUSTOMER Er, well, yes... er...

OFFICIAL I see. Now, did you lose anything else?

CUSTOMER Yes, in the supermarket.

OFFICIAL And what was in it?

CUSTOMER All my shopping and my purse.

CUSTOMER Where I left it?

OFFICIAL No, your address.

OFFICIAL Do you have a daytime telephone number?

CUSTOMER Yes, 56778.

OFFICIAL What was this box of cigars made of?

CUSTOMER Well, it was wooden and square.

OFFICIAL I see. And you left it on the bus?

CUSTOMER Yes, yesterday morning at about eleven o'clock.

OFFICIAL OK, about eleven o'clock on the seventeenth of October.
