Slipped Stitches in Single-color Patterns

The stitches are geno rally slipped in a row on the right side of the work, and purlcd on the wrong sidc. To slip rhem. insert the nght needle into the stitch from right to lelt and slip it off. In other worek the stitches are slipped purlwise; the yam is at the back of the work. Purl the stitch on the wrong sidc of the work.

The stitches can also be slipped in the rows on the wrong side ot the work and knłt on the right side ol the work; the effcct is rhe same. In this c.ise, yon abo insert the needle into rhe stitch as if to purl; the yam is at the from of the work. Knit the stitches in the rows on the nghr side of the work.

Yihi can also achieve an attractiw eitcct if you cross slipped stitches (sec cahles, page* I 32-135). The hackground can be worked in stock-inette or reverse stockmette stitch.

For a slipped stitch on the right side of the work, insert the right needle into the stitch as if to purl and slip it off. Thon work the next stitch, bringing the yarn along loosely at the back of the work.

Perpendicular Slip Stitches: This pattern (chart above) has to be worked on a circular needle, sińce 2 RS rows and 2 WS rows must be knit consecutively each time.
