Listen carefully and pay special attention to phrasal verbs that appear in this recording.
Due to cut backs an automated phone system was installed. However, problems soon began to crop up. Custoiners had problems getting through and found it hard to keep up with the automated directions. As there was no-one to attend to the problem customers patience was swiftly used up. The staff began to fali behind with their workload as they were trying Lo fili out eustomer complaint forrns, and didirt always have time to cali customers back. The reason for having this system just didn’1 add up and soon the company lost so much of its business that it had to close down two of its departments. That left many unhappy ex-employees witlr only unemployment benefits to live on.
