14 PROIECT TWO • BEAOEO AMULET PURSES
To make the triangular flap. After completing the last row of the rectangular portion of the work, begin reduc-ing each side to create the flap. To reduce, stop one bead short at the beglnning and end of each row, using half-hitches as indicated. (figurę 4).
Continue to reduce on each side of each row until only one bead is left. Do not clip the thread. String the pendant beads and then pass the needle back through all but the bottom bead. Zig-zag back into the woven beads and clip the thread.
To create the fringe. To find row 50, the fringe row, fold points A and C to meet poinls B and D (see graph on page 15). The beads of row 50 will be used to anchor the fringe. With the outside surface facing you, zig-zag a new thread with a few half-hitches through the body of the bag. Exit between the last and second to the last bead on the fold — row 50 (figurę 5).
String:
• One bronze seed bead
• One bronze delica
• One gold delica
• One bronze delica
• One black twisted bugle
• One bronze seed bead
• One black delica
• One black crystal bead
• One black delica
• Five green delicas
To make a loop with the five green delicas, return the thread through the remaining beads of the fringe — beginning with the last black delica.
Bt surę the fringe has no thread gaps and is pulled snug-ly against the woven beads Take the needle through the first two woven beads of row 50. String the second fringe and continue, creating fringes across the fold row. Upon reaching the opposite side, zig-zag the thread with a few half-hitches into the body of the bag and clip.
To close the purse. Fold points A and C up to meet points B and D to create the envelope (see graph on page 15). Zig-zag a new thread through the woven beads and exit through either bead B or D. Starting at the opening of the bag, stitch the sides toggther using half-hitches around the edge threads. At firc top do a few extra half-hitches for extra strength. Repeat these steps to close the other side.

To make the strap. Think of the strap as a necklace. Decide the ideał length and design of the strap and arrange the beads accordingly. Use connector beads at regular and symmetrical inteivals (see photograph, page 12).
Without attaching to the purse, string one strand of the strap. Leave at least a 20 inch taił of thread on each end. With a new length of thread pass through the first set of connector beads. Mimicking the first strand, pick up and string enough seed beads to span the distance to the next connector bead. Pass the thread through the connector bead. Continue slringing the second strand, con-verging through the connector beads.
Using a surgeon's knot, tie the two strands together at each end. Run the ends of the strap down each side seam of the bag, adding a few half-hitches from time to time. Align and stitch seed and bugle beads along each side seam to obscure the threads. See the photograph on page 12.
