Fig. 38
In Fig. 38, the nose has been developed, the -ostrils flared and pulled up at an angle by the firacted cheek muscle. Notice that the mouth has :een turned up at the corner creating morÄ™ ot a smile, hich in Fig. 36 appears morÄ™ as a grimace. The --'rows at the sides of the mouth have been deep--ed, bringing the chin to morÄ™ of a point, and the )uth hollowed out slightly.
W this point you should find it best to roughly sand _e face and check that all is symmetrical before rting on dęta i I. On this scalę any imbalances in the :sic shape will be hard to correct. Viewing the head
from below, above and in the mirror, will help to show up inaccuracies.
The eyes are now cut in with smali gouges in the usual way. The eyeballs should be sanded before completing the lids or they may be damaged, Fig. 39.
Moving down the face, Fig. 40, the nose and cheekbones are refined using riffler files and abrasives. The nostrils are drilled out with a burr and the opening of the mouth deepened. The teeth are cut in and separated from the lips. The lipsare very thinand tightly stretched around the teeth.
