Tanker Adria - later Polish Karpaty - was bulli as no 864 by Deutsche Schiffs- und Maschinenbau Werk A G. “Weser*T lii Bremen. Shc was launchcd on 19 May 1927 and on 16 July she was handcd over lo Atlantic Tank Rlicdcrei (Bremen) who managcd Lhe ship on behalf of thc owner, the Bretner Qcl Transport GmbH.

In Octgber 1930 Adria came under managemenl of John T. BssbergerGmbH. Herscrvice went on wilhoulany Iiighlighls apart from her paitieipalion as rcplcnishmenl łan ker forcruiscr Emden during thc lallcrs circumnavigation sińce Oclohcr 1936 unii! April 1937.

On 16 January 1938 Adria was purchased by John T. Essebenjer (Hamburg); name rcmained unchangcd.

Ueforc ouibrcak of war, on 25 August 1939 Adria arrived in Hamburg from Mexico and on 19 Ociobcr 1939 she was takcn ovcr by German Kriegsniarine as Ólschiff 4.

Since July J940 shc bccamc one of naval rcplcnishment tankers stationed in Norway. At lhe break of Novcmber and Dccember 1940 she was senl to North Sea to rcplenish Admirał Jłipper, iwo months later - for Scitarnhorst and Gneisenau, while in May and June 1941 she was on North Sea as rcservrc tanker for Bismarck and Prinz Eu gett sonie. Later she was carrying oil between German and Norwegian harbotirs.

On 11 April 1945 Adria was damaged off Hela during an air slrike. By the end of war shc was - still damaged — in Kieł. On 4 Junc Adria Icft lor Metliill and arri vcd ther on 13 June lo bc handcd over to Brilish Minislry of War Transport. Iłcr name was changcd to Empire Tageas\ shc was managed by Eagle Oil & Shipping Co * Ltd. of London.

In thc same ycar she was Iransfeirod to USSR and renamed Kazbek. A year Later shc was Co be given to Poland as part of war reparations.

Polish colours werc raised on 3 Mareh 1947 and thc ship was renamed Karpaty, Gdynia-America Lines bccamc her ncw owner. She sailcd from Poland to Black Sca and Pcrsian Gulf harbours. Unforumaldy her engines wenę wora out and during one of trips from Pcrsian Gulf Karpaty had to stop no less tlian 38 limes (!) due lo faulty propulsion. On I January 1951 Karpaty was transferrcd lo Polish Ocean Lines after GAL was disiolwd. By tliat limę she had 6589 lons gross and 3787 net.

Al the break of 1951 and 1952 Karpaty were chartered by USSR and were senl from Rom anion Konstanta to China, On the way back she was senl lo WcddcJI Sca, where shc

was to rcplenish Sovict Siara whaling llotilla with fuel and water. She arrived there in Mareh 1952 - first Polish ship in Anlarciic waters.

On 9 Novcmber 1957, during a return voyagc from Novorossijsk to Gdańsk, on lhe McdiLcnancan in upproximaiepo$ition 37°N/70E, in heavy storni thc Karpaty were immobilized when thc main erankshaft neck was toru olT. The ship, rolling to 42° began to drifl towards African sliore. In lhe evening Polish cargo ship Bałtyk ;urived ihcre, but rising storm prevented any aclion. Only on 12 Novembcr a to w could he trajislerred to Karpaty and a day later thc eonvoy (escorted by Freneh destroyer Kahyle and lug Saint Louis) arrivcd in Bonc.

In Dccember Karpaty were found lo bc damaged beyond repairs. On 24 Mareh 195.3 the ship (still laid up in Bonc) was sold for scrap to Italy. She left for her Iast voyage on 8 April 1958 to La Spczia on tosv of Greek tug Venicos Nicalaos. In the same month she was broken up.

1-13 Huli. Glue part i as a box without thc butlom. Glue siilfenings 2 beni as letter C insidc. Cul out part 3, bend and glue together hoth horizontal planes in ihc middle. Glue part 4 to thc rabs and fasten ready fbre jiart of the hulTs framework to part 1. Gut out pan 5, bend the vertical wali downwards and glue sides 6 around. Stiffen the cutting of thc sides on the steru with tabs 7 (from bclow). Glue stiffening 8 insitle (from bclow) and glue thc whole to Lhe hulTs framework.. Glue sides 9 (start on the bo w).
