Achieying Quality Results Through Blended Management
Figurę 5. Total Quality Management at Alliant Techsystems.
Quality Board members who are responsible for assuring that appropriate departments apply the resources necessary to accomplish the objectives in the prescribed time frames. Each department establishes strategies in their primary and secondary objective areas. Working groups and individual contributors identify personal tactics and measures to monitor their own progress and contributions in terms of the TQM milestones. Progress is reviewed by the Quality Board every two months and the goals are updated annually.
This version of blended management could be viewed as a combination of the approaches employed by IBM Rochester (6 critical success factors) and Schonberger (17 point action agenda). Alliant Techsystem’s SMF for 1993 was composed of one (1) business mission, eight (8) corporate goals, and thirty-three (33) TQM objectives.
