Blended Management at Honeywell IAC

Honeywell's Industrial Automation and Control manufacturing operations in Phoenix, AZ, also employ a top-down & bottom-up implementation strategy for their quality initiatives (see Figurę 6). For the past ten years, the manufacturing facilities have responded to changes in business through an evolutionary process combining employee involvement and continuous improvement. During this time, they have transitioned through the formation of smali work teams, integrated the quality functions, and instituted the practices of World Class Manufacturing (WCM).

Since the initial formation of smali work teams in 1983, the team approach has become the norm for all of manufacturing. Over a three year period, the organization changed from being “process focused” to a system of “focused factories”, where each work team is a “business within the business”. The teams focus on satisfying customers and have stock-to-dock responsibilities for entire products.
