ARM LOCKS FOR GROUND WORK
First Arm Lock
Step One: Throw completed, Thrower has main-tained hołd, Receiver has maintained grip at lapel, Photo #1. ( See notes on Ground Work for

Step Two: Thrower slides right foot against body of Receiver as he grips Receiver's right wrist with his right hand, natural grip, Photo #2.
Step Three: Thrower places left leg across Re-ceiver's neck and Lowers his body to sit very close to Receiver's shoulder, maintaining strong grip with both hands to support and position his body, Photo #3.
Apply lock and pressure by levering Receiver's arm across your thigh, and raising your hips, Photo #4. His elbow should cross your thigh, his arm is heid palm up, your leg across neck prevents him from sitting up. Apply lock until Receiver taps to indicate submission.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTĘ: Locks, chokes and holds must be applied slowLy in practice by the beginning student. Locks and holds may result in injury if applied with force, and chokes may cause unconsciousness. Your partner in Judo play is to be instructed to tąp for submission upon feeling pressure to indicate techniąue is being done successfully. You must learn to use tap for safety and you must learn to release ąuickly when your partner taps. Tap mat or tap partner's body at first indication of pressure!
Remember, sport Judo is for fun! It is discour-teous and outside the rules of play if you persist in using a painful or dangerous techniąue with need-less violence or force.
