Figurę 2.23 Skin and Cutaneous Receptors_
Cutaneous receplors respond to touch (mechanoreceptors), pain (nodceptors), and temperaturę (thermoreceptors). Several dłfferent t> l>es of receptors are present in skin. Mei$$ncr's corpuscies have smali receptive rlelds and respond hest to stimuli that are applied at Iow frequcncy (i.e., lluiter). The pacinian corpuscies are located in the suheutaneous tissue and have large rcceptive fields. Tlicy respond best to higlvfrequency slimulation (i.e., vibration). Merkel's dises have smali recoptivc fields and respond to touch and pressure (i.e., indenting the skini. Ruffinfs corpuscies have large receptive fields, and they also respond to touch and pressure. Free nerve end-ings respond to pain and temperaturę.
