Bind (cast) off stitchcs when you have finished using them. This links stitchcs togcthcr to stop them unrave)ling and is thc simplcst method of binding (casting) off. Sec page 25 for advanccd binding (casting) off.

Knit Perfect

Like a cast on edge. it is important that a bind (cast) off edge is elastic.This means that it should not be so tight that it polis the knitted fabric in.This is important when binding (casting) off a neckband. if it is too tight it will not stretch over yoor head and the edge may break. unravelling the stitches.

If you bind (cast) off too tightły. use a needle one or two sizes larger than that used for the knitted fabric. Ałways spend time undoing the edge and binding (casting) off again if it isn't right.

To finish...

Cut the yam (leavmg a length long enough to sew in). thread the end through the last stitch and slip it off the needle. Puli the yam end to tighten the stitch.

3 One stitch is left on the right-hand needle.

Bind (cast) off knitwise

This is the easiest method to bind (cast) off on a knit row.

1 Knit two stitches. insert the tip of the 2 Lift this stitch over the second stitch left-hand needle into the front of the and off the needle.

First stitch on the right-hand needle.

4 Knit the next stitch and lift the second stitch over this and off the needle. Continue in this way until one stitch remains on the nght-hand needle.

Bind (cast) off purlwise

To bind (cast) off on a purl row. simply purl the stitches instead of kmttmg them.

Plain scarf knitted in garter stitch m a bulky (chunky) wooł yam on size 11 (8mm/UK0) needles.

Striped scarf knitted in a fisherman (aran) merino wool yarn on size 7 (4.$mm/UK7) needles. Finished size for each scarf is 6in (15cm) wide by 62in (158cm) long.
