Global warming: the inerease in the temperaturę of the Earth's air and seas sińce the mid-twentieth century, and its projected continuation.
Climate change: long-term changes in the EartlYs weather due to human behaviour.
What is global warming and why is it a problem?
Our planet is overheating because the amount of carbon dioxide is inereasing. It is our fault because we have burnt too many forests and fossil fuels such as coal and oil. When they are burnt. carbon dioxide is produced so the Earth gets warmer and warmer.
The changes in our climate bring problems.
|}f?f Drought: Some places. for example. parts of Africa, have terrible droughts. There isn't enough rain. As a result, crops fail and sometimes people starve. Drought also makes the problems of forest fires worse. Forest fires happen all the time but, because everything is so dry, fires spread Ä…uickly and cause terrible damage.
[33 Floods: As the ice at the Arctic and Antarctic melts, morÄ™ water goes into the
sea. Sea levels rise so the land is flooded. Some countries, such as Bangladesh, already have awful floods. Other countries, for example, the UK. are also in danger.
WgÅ Extreme weather: Hurricanes and cyclones are becoming stronger and morÄ™ dangerous. For example, in New Orleans, in the USA. thousands of people were drowned in the floods after Hurricane Katrina, and in Burma many people were killed after Cyclone Nargis.
