Fit the cable clamp from the originol carburettor into the rocking lever. Position the rod on the end of the throttle-cable about half-way through the clamp and tighten. (Photo 15). On cors earlier than 1966 the original cable- return spring and sleeve are used, assembled in the normal way.
On later cars having the original cable-return spring on the carburetor, a new spring is supplied which must be passed over the cable before connecting-up. This bears on the cross-shaft bracket at one end and the rocking lever at the other. (Diagram 5).
CARBURETTOR ADJUSTMENT (ROUGH). (See also pamphlet G6604/
SB211 supplied).
Loosen the clamp-nuts securing the end-levers to the cross-shaft.
|f necessary, slightly open the slot in each lever with a screw-driver so that the levers become perfectly free on the shaft and each carburettor can be operated independently.
Rough setting of throttle-stops.
Ensure that the choke mechanism on each carburettor is in the "OFF" position. Unscrew the throttle stop screws to permit the throttles in each carburettor to close completely. (Photo 16). Screw in throttle stop screws to the point where the end of the screw is just contacting the lever on the throttle spindle. From this point rotate the stop screw on each carburettor, one complete tum to open the throttles an egual amount to provide a basis from which to work for finał adjustment.
Rough setting of mixture adjustment.
Screw up the jet-adjustment nut under each carburettor as far as it will go, then screw down six complete turns. The tommy-bar through the jet-nut makes this an easy operation. Finał adjustment is carried out when the engine is running and after setting the ignition.
Unscrew the cap on top of each carburettor and fili with 20 SAE oil to within 4" (6mm) of the top of the hol Iow guide rod.
IGNITION.
Whilst the twin-Stromberg Kit can operate with standard V.W. distributor, for the best results we strongly recommend the special centrifugal-advance types, either the E .M.P.I.,-Bosch RM3 or Speedwell DIS 51 .
Settings with either of the above special distributors are as follows
1200 Engine (34 HP-DIN, 40 HP-SAE) - 9° BTDC
1300 Engine (40 HP-DIN, 50 HP-SAE) - 11° BTDC
1300 Engine with E.M.P.I. GP Exhaust - 14° BTDC
1350 Engine (1200 with Big-Bore Kit) - 13° BTDC
