The knitted rosę brooch bas been fulled to give it body (see page 60); a book is fastened by a Iłutton witb an embroidered knitted covcr and a matebing twisted cord (sec pages 80. 85 and 77); and a lacy leaf trim is tbc pcrfcct edging to a sccntcd sachet.

Sport (4pły) weight shetland wool yam (129yd/118m per bali):

I x I oz/25g bali each in colours: A rosę red B green

Smali amount of dark green embroidery thread

Brooch pin

NEEDLES

Sizc 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles

Gauge (Tension)

28 sts and 36 rows to *tm (lOcm) measured over stockjnette (stockmg) stitch on s«ze 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles

Using size i (J.ZOrnm/UKlO) needles and A. work a rosi* as given on page 82. bind (cast) olT lite siiiclics insiead of threading ilu* yam ibrougb them.

Using B. work iwo leaves as given on page 82. working ilu* inereases as MI instead of yam over (see page 27).

Ute rosę and leaves are fulled following ibe insi nici ions on page 60.

FINISHING_

Kun a galhering thread througli lite base of ihc rosę and puli up. Form ihe rosę by iwisling ii round and round front lite eenire willi rigbl side of fabrie laeing ouiwards. Puli ibe rosę inio sliape as you go. Work a few siiielies ibrougb Ihc base lo seeure ii. limbroider veins on lo ibe !eaves. Sew ihe leaves eillier side of Ihe rosę. Sew ihe brooch pin on sccurcly.

Sport (dpły) weight mercenzed cotton yam (53yd/MOm per bali): I x I ł4oz/50g bali in dark purple

Stranded cotton embroidery threads:

I hank in each of the colours dark rosę. light pink and green

I in (2.5cm) button or button covering kit

Notebook

Ribbon the width to fit down spine of book and three times the length of the spine

NEEDLES

Size 2 (3mm/UKI I) needles

IJsing size 2 (Jmm/Ukll) needles and *łply yam. work a covercd bulion as given on page 80.

IJsing embroidery ihreads. work a group of roses (rosę stitch) and french kitois. Work single chain Slilches for ihc leaves. (See embroidery siiielies. page 8J-S.) Finish ihe bulion. Thread ihc ribbon ibrougb ihe spine of the book and lic ihc ends logeiber and liide ibe knot in ibe spine. Make twisted cords in each of the light pink and dark rosi* embroidery threads. using iwo sirands (see page 77). Sew one end of each on lo ihe base of ihc bulion. Place Ibe bulion on ibe front of ibe book, elose lo the edge. Wrnp ibe twisicd cords around ihe book. passing under the ribbon on ihc spine. Sccure the cords to the ribbon willi a few neal slilches. To elose Ibe Imok. lic ihe cords around ibe bulion in a bow.

Sport (*4pły) weight mercerized cotton yam (I53yd/I40m per bali):

I x I &oz/50g bali in colour light pink

Fabrie sachet with rosę petal filling Large bead

Measure ibe edge of ibe sachet wbere

ibe edging will be stitched.

Using size 2 (3mm/UKll) needles and dply yam. work tbis length of leaf edging as givcn on page 126. Sew on lo ibe sachet. If rctpiircd. make a fasiening loop front a sbort twisted cord. using iwo sirands of the yam (see page 77) and sew Iłchind ibe edging. Sew on ihe bead.
