For your safety, carefully follow all manufacturer's instructions and warnings when using any cleaning, stripping, painting, or finishing product. We used water-based primer and paint for the painted projects in this book.
You may need non-abrasive household cleaner. vinegar. iemon-free dishwashing soap. sponges. soft cloths. old paintbrush, toothbrush, paint and vamish stripper, wlre brush, assorted grit or gauge sandpaper or Steel wool, and tack doth.
PREPARING WOODEN ITEMS
I. Clean wooden item. Remove surface grime with a nori-abrasive cleaner.
2 Remove hardware and prepare surface. Knock off peelingor chipping paint with a wire brush. If surface is lumpy or shows brushstrokes due to multiple layers oł paint. use paint stripper to strip paint from surface. Smooth rough areas with medium-grit sandpaper. then lightly sand entire piece with fine-grit sandpaper. 3. Wipe down wooden item using a tack cloth to remove dust.
PREPARING METAL ITEMS
Wash with vinegar and water. Wash again with Iemon-free liquid dishwashing soap and water: rinse well and allow to completely dry.
You may need painter’s masking tape, kraft paper or newspaper. sandpaper, tack cloth, palette paper or foam plates, primer. paper towels. paint. elear acrylic sealer. gloves. foam brushes, natural and compressed sponges. and palntbrushes.
Allow primer. paint. giazing medium, slain, wash, and elear aerylic sealer lo dnj afler each application unless otherwise indicated.
1. Mask off any area you don't wish to paint. Use masking tape and kraft paper or newspaper as needed
2. Apply a primer to your prepared surface before painting. Lightly sand surface: wipe away dust with tack cloth.
3. Apply paint using a paintbrush designed for the type of paint you are using, or you may use spray paint. Both types of paint may require morę than one coat for eyen coverage.
4. Follow indhridual project instjuctions to paint designs. SEALING
Seal smali objects with elear acrylic spray sealer: seal large objects with elear acrylic brush-on sealer. Apply at least two to three coats; ailow to dry after each application.
You may need drop cloths. paint;er's masking tape. putty knife. spackling compound, fine-grit sandpaper, household detergent, primer. paint. paint roller, paintbrushes, sponge, ladder, paint tray. colton cloths. and gloves.

1. Prolect floor with drop cloths. Use masking tape to protect woodwork and ceiling. Remove outlet and switch piąte covers.
2. Scrape off any ioose paint with putty knife. Use spackling compound to patch holes and cracks,
Lightly sand rough areas.
3. Wash and rinse walls; allow to dry thoroughly (usually 24 hours).
4. Mask off areas you don't wish to paint with masking tape.
5. Apply primer to prepared wali before painting. Follow individual project instructions to apply paint to walls.
Choose a brush size that corresponds with the size of the elements in your design. Use a script liner brush to create long, thin lines and a liner bmsh for short. Chin lines. Rrint curves, circles. Ieaves. and flower petals with a round or fiat brush; use a fiat brush to paint backgrounds, stripes. and wide strokes.
