The second danger is that the rigidity of the boncs is ignorcd. This can lead ro deformities such as ‘rubber legs. The rhird danger is the itemi/.ing of parts of the anatomy. A careful look at an animais body, particularly if it is covcred with fur or fearhers, will show vcry subtle transitions from rib cage to pelvis to hind leg and from ribcage to shoulder (Fig 11.23), foreleg, neck and jaw. The forms may be quite distinct in places, but not all the way round. The inexperienced havc a natural tendcncy to carvc legs and ears as if they were separate and stuck on. Eyes, too, tend to be harshly defined; cyclids are not sharp-edged likc the rims of spectacles.
