Exercise 1
Read the following text and rewrite it in the passive. (The first sentence is in the passive.)
It was decided by the town council that a festival would be held to celebrate the town’s four-hundredth birthday.
They decorated the town hall and streets with flags and garlands, and they hired a band to play for the reception. They invited several local celebrities to come and open the festival.. They hired ą catering firm to prepare a meal for 100 people. On the day itself they madę speeches, and they held games and competitions on the green. In the evening they served the banguet.
Then they set off fireworks to end the festival.
