The word Sailendra-Rajaguru in stanzas 2 and 5 raised Ihe ąuestion as to whelher he is Ihe guru of Panarhkarana or of another king of the Sailendra dynasty. Stanza 6 is elear beyond doubt that Panarhkarana built the T&ra-temple in deference to the wishes of the Guru, and we come across the same idea earlicr in stanza 3. In stanza 8 the mighty King follows the

noble traditions observed by the kings of the Sailendra dynasty. The tenor of the whole inscription indicates that Panarhkarana himself is the Sailendra king.
The North Indian script termed Pre-Nagari (now called Siddham by Damais) has been used in the inscription. lts use indicates that the Rajaguru came from the Pala dominions. Contacls with the Palas must have been constant. I-tsing took a ship from Kcdah and rcached Tamralipti in 673 (Takakusu 1896: xxxi) The Pala manuscript of the Astasahasrika Pr ajńaparamitś depicts a statuę of Lord Buddha at Kalaśa-vara-pura (Kalasan).
