FAVOUTITE BUILDING
Everyone in his or her life has seen a lot of extremely beautiful, meaningful places and buildings.
Some of them are very modern and unusually-looking and some of them are glorious, ancient places
where the history of our world is buried in, there are also different places and buildings that have a
permanent effect on our minds, those are the places we grew up in or the places which bring us
happy memories because of some unknown reason.
For me such meaningful and magnificent building is Spodek in Katowice. It’s not a place highly
associated with history of Poland as it was built in 1971, it’s not even truly beautiful, when you think
of a canon beauty. It’s in the shape of flattened sphere or thick disc and it really looks like a space-
ship which could fly away any minute possible. Nowadays the city has the building renovated and it
looks much better than before, even if the work on it hasn’t been finished yet. Spodek is the most
recognizable building in Katowice and the whole Silesia. It’s the place in where are held many
different forms of cultural events: music festivals, concerts, fairs, car exhibitions, sports events and
many many more.
Personally for me it was the place I grew up in, as my grandmother, living nearby, took me there
every time I visited her, because I was fascinated with its architecture and unusual look. It was the
place I saw my first play and started to ice-skating. More so it was the place I first saw a volleyball
match and since then I became a great fan of it. Later it was also the place I often visited because of
my school’s nearby location and because we had our physical education classes held there. It’s so
meaningful to me because I associate with this place a great amount of happy memories. If there’s a
volleyball match in Spodek there is no way I wouldn’t be present then and it has become a tradition
not only for me but for all my friends and family.
