Track 7
End of Level Test, A and B
Anna: And so to our weekly film spot with Tom Hopkins. Hi Tom, what have you got for us this weekend?
Tom: Hi Anna. Today I've got two new releases. Let's start with The Dragon King, the latest fantasy adventure dragon story from Daylight Pictures.
Anna: Oh no, surely not another fantasy film?!
Tom: Yes, I'm afraid so! It's based on the best-selling novel of the same name which was written by T.P. Baker. It is a little different from your typical dragon adventure though, as it's set in present day New York.
Anna: Well, at least it wasn't filmed in New Zealand!
Tom: Yes, we have had a few too many films shot in New Zealand recently. Anyway, it starts when a young boy, played by Jim Banks, finds a large egg on his balcony. He takes it inside, and a few days later it hatches into a baby dragon. From then on there are plenty of surprises as the plot unfolds, a plot which I actually found quite hard to follow, although in general the film isn't as heavy-going as the book it's based on. All in all, it's a reasonably entertaining film, although perhaps the special effects aren't up to Daylight Pictures' usual standards. The dragon itself wasn't actually too convincing at times, especially when flying over New York…
Anna: Ok that's enough about dragons. What else have you got for us?
Tom: Well the other film which is on general release this weekend is The Other Side.
Anna: Sounds scary!
Tom: Yes it does sound like a horror film, but in fact it's more of a family drama. I don't want to give too much away, so I can't really say much else about it.
Anna Thanks a lot!
Tom Ok, ok… I can tell you that it's also based on a book, this one called Getting Through and I have to admit when I read it I couldn't put it down. I can also tell you that the film is just as gripping as the book and that there are some great performances from the largely unknown cast.
Anna: Hmm, sounds great. We'll look forward to hearing from you next week, when you'll be reviewing the next big Hollywood conspiracy theory thriller…
Tom: That's right, should be interesting…Thanks Anna, see you then.
Anna; Right, well next up we have an interview with artist Frank…[fade out]
