ADJUSTMENT
Control Rod Adjustment Procedure
1. Open the rear hatch.
2. Using a screwdriver, rotate the rear hatch latch assembly until it is in the LOCK position.
3. Release the lock tabs on both ends of the Control Rod, Note which end is assembled to the Micro Switch and which end is assembled to the latch. Then remove the Control rod.
4. Reach inside the large access hole near the center of the hatch, and move the control arm on the latch to open the latch (move the control arm toward the passenger side of the vehicle).
5. Enter the rear cargo compartment and close the rear hatch.
6. Position the latch end of the Control Rod into the latch control arm.
7. Rotate the lock cylinder control arm COUNTERCLOCKWISE so the cam (while plastic) is off of the Micro Switch metal tab.
8. Rotate the lock cylinder control arm CLOCKWISE listening for the Micro Switch to CLICK.
9. Continue rotating the lock cylinder control arm approximately 1/4 inch past the Micro Switch CLICK point.
10. The Micro Switch end of the Control Rod should be able to be installed in the lock cylinder control arm. This point indicates the Control rod length is correct. If the Control Rod cannot be installed in the lock cylinder control arm, bend the Rod to achieve the correct Control Rod length. Refer to Control Rod Bending Procedure.
Control Rod Bending Procedure 1. Remove the Control Rod.
2. Change the Control Rod length. (1) To shorten the Control Rod. A. Hold the Control Rod, as it would be installed in the vehicle (with the Micro Switch end in the left hand and the latch end in the right hand.)
(2) Place both thumbs on top of the Control Rod near the middle. A. Place latch connecting end of Control Rod on the bench, so the Control Rod will not rotate during the bending process.
B. Bend center of the Control rod downward.
(3) To lengthen the Control Rod: A. Remove the bend from the middle of the Control Rod.
B. If more length is required, remove the bend from the latch end of the Control Rod.
3. Reinstall the Control Rod and check for correct adjustment.
(1) If the Control Rod lines up correctly, secure the lock tabs down.
(2) If not, bend the Control Rod to achieve the correct length.
4. Rotate the lock cylinder control arm CLOCKWISE and then COUNTERCLOCKWISE: (1) If the power door locks do not unlock, then the Control Rod adjustment is correct
(2) If the power door locks unlock, then readjust the Control Rod.
5. With the Control Rod reinstalled, verify that the Theft Deterrent system is operating correctly by: (1) Opening and closing the rear hatch several times from outside the vehicle.
(2) Closing all doors, and the hood.
(3) Locking either front door using the key and confirming that the horn makes one quick sound, indicating the Theft Deterrent System is activated.
6. Once correct system operation is verified, reinstall the trim panel on the interior of the rear hatch.
