1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature.
3. Turn off all electrical loads.
4. Lift the cover on the data link connector (DLC).
5. Connect a jumper wire between ENG. TEST and GND.
6. Connect a tachometer to the data link connector (DLC) IG-terminal. (This terminal is for connecting the positive lead of non-inductive tachometers only.)
7. Check that the idle speed is within the specified range.
Idle speed(transmission in "NEUTRAL") : 800 ± 50RPM
8. Remove the tachometer from the DLC IG-terminal.
9. Close the cover to the DLC.
10. Turn off the engine.
Inspection of Sensitivity 1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Run engine at idle speed.
3. Lift the cover on the data link connector (DLC).
4. Connect a voltmeter between ENG. MON and B+ terminals of the DLC.
5. Verify that the voltage varies between 0V and 3V (7-8 pulsations in 10 seconds).
6. Turn the ignition switch off.
7. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and depress the brake pedal for 15 seconds to eliminate the service codes from the ECM memory.
Inspection
1. Run the engine at idle.
2. Disconnect the IAC electrical connector.
3. Idle speed should increase to approximately 1000rpm after a loud click sound.
Refer to the ETM for further testing. Idle Speed

Removal
1. Check that the ignition key is in the "OFF" position.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the idle speed controller.
3. Remove the hose from the intake duct to the idle speed controller.
4. Remove the two bolts fastening the idle speed controller to the intake manifold.
Installation
1. Position the idle speed controller on the intake maniflod.
2. Install and tighten the two bolts retaining the idle speed controller to the intake manifold.
3. Install the hose from the intake duct to the idle speed controller.
4. Connect the idle speed controller electrical connector.
