Preparation
The 7 new tiles are shuffled in with the rest of the tiles; the new trade goods are placed beside the game
board with the existing trade goods from Traders and Builders. The game is played as normal with a
few changes as detailed below:
1. Place a tile
1. Place a tile
When a city containing one or more salt traders is completed, the player who owns the city receives the
number of salt trade goods equivalent to the number of salt traders in the city (note that this is the player
who owns the city, not the one who completes it as per the rules in Traders and Builders). If two or
more players share the city, the player who completed the city takes the salt trade goods instead.
When a player receives a salt trade good (right), they must make an immediate decision:
they can retain the trade good, or they may exchange it for another trade good of any kind
(other than cocoa beans) in the general supply. Once a decision has been made, it cannot
be changed.
If, due to salt trade goods, there are not enough grain, cloth or wine trade goods left in the supply to be
given to players when necessary, those players must take the equivalent number of salt trade goods
instead.

During a player’s turn, they may choose to buy a cocoa beans trade good (right). To do this they must
trade 1 each of salt, cloth, grain and wine trade goods. This player then receives a cocoa beans trade
good token. The traded tokens are returned to the supply. This may only be done once per turn.
Final Scoring
Final Scoring
At the end of the game, the player or players who have collected the most salt trade
goods receive 10 points.
Each cocoa beans trade good is worth 5 points a t the end of the game. In addition to this, the player or
players who have collected the most also receive 1 point for each salt, cloth grain or wine trader inside a
completed city, as well as 2 points for each pig remaining on the board.
Interaction with Expansions
Interaction with Expansions
When playing with the Abbey and Mayor expansion, at the end of the game the player or players with
the most cocoa beans trade goods also receive 2 points for each wagon that remains on the board.
Note also that the pink pig contained in the Wheel of Fortune expansion does NOT count as a pig
when the player or players with the most cocoa beans trade goods receive points at the end of the game.
