1
It's a real problem in big cities, like London, Birmingham and Manchester. What we really need is more new hostels and emergency accommodation for people living on the street.
2
Well, I can work at home three days a week because of it, sending emails to clients and looking up information on websites. But it is really annoying when a virus gets through the firewall.
3
It's almost twice as expensive as normal fruit and vegetables, but I can really taste the difference and I think it's good for my kids, so I always try and buy it when I'm at the supermarket.
4
John is going to Colombia for three months over the summer. He's working at a rainforest reserve, trying to save some pink dolphins that live in the Amazon river.
5
Climatologists say that the floods we've had on the coast recently have happened because the planet is getting hotter, and that soon there could be a real emergency situation in some parts of the world.
Track 14, Progress Test 4, Listening: Part 2
C: With me in the studio at AIR FM today is Diana Jackson. Hello, Diana.
D: Hello, Chloe.
C: Well, thank you for coming to talk to us today.
D: You're welcome. It's a pleasure to be here.
C: Now I hear that you have just started your own business. Is that right?
D: Yes, I have.
C: What kind of business is it?
D: Well, the idea is very simple, really. My company makes suits, skirts, dresses and jackets for professional women.
C: How interesting. Can you tell me a bit more about it?
D: Of course. My clients want clothes that are suitable for work. They want something a little bit different too, so we give them a choice of material and design for their clothes. They can have a smart or a more casual look. Some clients even want something a little bit sexy from time to time. All our clothes fit perfectly and look really good on the client. We make sure the clothes go with jewellery, shoes, and other items, too.
C: What a good idea. Do you have a lot of clients?
D: Quite a lot, yes. Women in senior positions in a company want to look really good. We make clothes to make our clients look and feel special. It's a question of professionalism.
C: So, are your clothes expensive?
D: Hmm, well, they're not cheap, but they are good value. Our clients get a personal service with a visit to their home or office to advise on style and shape. Client's details are saved so once they've got their perfect suit they can re-order it in as many colours as they like. All this saves them a lot of time. They don't have to spend hours looking for something in the shops.
C: Well done, Diana! I'm sure some of our listeners will be interested in your clothes, so please leave your details and we can put our listeners in touch with you.
D: Great! Thanks!
C: Thank you for coming to speak to us, and good luck!
