Good morning everybody and welcome to Class 3's assembly. We'd like to tell you a story about how important it is to try hard and work together. It goes like this…

Narrator 1 |
There was once a duck who had the bad luck to live with a lazy old farmer. The duck did the work. The farmer stayed all day in bed.

Narrator 2 |
The duck fetched the cow from the field. (Duck fetches the cow from the field)

How goes the work? |
Duck |
Quack! |
Narrator 3 |
The duck brought the sheep from the hill. (Duck fetches the sheep from the hill)

Narrator 1 |
The duck put the hens in their house (Duck shoos the hens into the henhouse)

How goes the work? |
Duck |
Quack! |
Narrator 2 |
The farmer got fat through staying in bed and the poor duck got fed up with working all day.

Farmer |
How goes the work? |
Duck |
Quack (Repeat while duck saws, digs, washes up, irons, picks apples and fetches eggs)

Narrator 3 |
The poor duck was sleepy and weepy and tired. (Duck sobs himself to sleep)

Narrator 1 |
The hens and the cow and the sheep got very upset. They loved the duck. So they held a meeting under the moon and they made a plan for the morning.

Moo!, Baa!, Cluck! |
Narrator 2 |
And that was the plan! |

Narrator 3 |
It was just before dawn and the farmyard was still. |
Narrator 1 |
Through the back door and into the house crept the cow and the sheep and the hens. (Animals creep through the door)

Narrator 2 |
They stole down the hall (Animals tiptoe down the hall) They creaked up the stairs (Animals creak up the stairs)
|
Narrator 3 |
They squeezed under the bed of the farmer and wriggled about. (Animals group together and wriggle)
|
Narrator 1 |
The bed started to rock and the farmer woke up, |
Narrator 2 |
And he called… |
Farmer |
How goes the work? |
Narrator 2 |
And… |
Animals |
Moo!, Baa!, Cluck! |
Narrator 3 |
They lifted his bed and he started to shout and they banged and they bounced the old farmer about.. |
Narrator 3 & 1 |
..And about.. |
All Narrators |
…And about… right out of the bed… |
Narrator 1 |
And he fled |
Narrator 2 |
With the cow and the sheep and the hens mooing and baaing and clucking around him |
Narrator 3 |
Down the lane… through the fields… over the hill |
All cast |
… and he never came back. |
Narrator 1 |
The duck awoke and waddled wearily into the yard expecting to hear |
Narrator 2 |
How goes the work? |
Narrator 1 |
But nobody spoke! (pause)

Narrator 3 |
Then the cow and the sheep and the hens came back |
Duck |
(Puzzled) Quack? |
Narrator 1 |
Asked the duck |
Cow |
Moo! |
Narrator 2 |
Said the cow |
Sheep |
Baa! |
Narrator 2 |
Said the sheep |
Hens |
Cluck! |
Narrator 2 |
Said the hens |
Narrator 3 |
Which told the duck the whole story. |
Narrator 1 |
Then mooing and baaing and clucking they all set to work on |
All |
Their farm. |
All (Sing with Mrs McCrossan) |
All the animals had a farm…. On that farm they had a duck, a cow, some sheep, some hens.
