Crme and Punishment

The press, TV, radio have recently reported an increasing number of acts of violence in our towns. We can unfortunately say that crime becomes rampant. Nowadays we can noticed many different kinds of acts of violence, for example: thefts, forgeries, muggings, rapes, sexual assaults, murders and also other law-breakings. There are few of violence:

  1. Three teenage boys tie up a classmate and hung him head down from a tree just because they did not like the music he listened to. The boy was rescued by a passer-by.

  2. A young man shot his parents and his younger brother and then set a fire to his home before committing suicide.

  3. A group of football fans, without any apparent reason, demolished a newsagent's stand and beat up the owner. The man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and three broken ribs.

There are also many people who called themselves “sport fans” but in my opinion they are not keen on sport, they only want to fight with fans of the opposite team, and they have never really engaged in any sport activity.

Of course the most temble are brutal murders especially because the victims are usually innocent and just. In my opinion also ugly are ripes because usually the victims are such unhappy that they can commit a suicide or spend their future live being always frightened of men and alone.

The petty crimes: for example shoplifting, demolishing, vandalising walls of famous buildings with graffiti are also a criminal offences but usually they get off scot-free. Hardly ever the police catches the criminals in the act.

Such violence and aggression have become quite common sociologists said that such phenomena of many acts of violence usually was a result of poverty and frustration sociological researches show that aggression increases in societies where there are a lot of unemployed people, where the standard of living is going down were people's dreams and ambitions cannot be realized. Violence provides an easy outlet for aggression - it doesn't matter who you attack or for what reason - the most important is that you simply let off the tension and aggression which have accumulated in you. According to sociologists increasing violence is also a result of liberal laws toolenient approach towards criminals. What should we do ? I think that laws should be used more often and the punishment should be as serve as possible with prisons which should be real hells for criminals.
