Classroom Requirements
This course requires a classroom with a minimum of one computer for the instructor and one for each student. Before class begins, install and configure all computers by using the following information and instructions. All hardware must be on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for Microsoft®
Windows® XP Professional.
Instructor Computer
The instructor computer requires the following hardware and software configuration.
Hardware Level 3
The following hardware is the minimum required for the instructor computer:
Pentium III 450
PCI 2.1 bus
512 megabytes (MB) of RAM
12-gigabyte (GB) hard disk
512-kilobyte (KB) L2 cache
DVD player

Classroom Configuration
The following configuration and naming conventions are suggestions:
The instructor computer is named London and has an IP address of 192.168.x.200.
The student computers are named according to the following table.
The following table shows suggested names and IP addresses of the student computers. The computers can be installed in any order or concurrently. In the IP addresses, x is the classroom number.

Manual Classroom Setup
Use the following instructions to set up the classroom manually. For more information about the hardware levels for both the instructor and student computers, refer to the Classroom Requirements section in this guide.
Before You Begin
Before you set up the classroom, you will need to do the following:
Read through all setup procedures.
Make sure that you have the Trainer Materials compact disc that is provided with the course materials.
Estimated time to set up the classroom: 10 hours
Instructor Computer Setup
Use the following instructions to set up the instructor computer.
Set up the hardware
Set up the hardware according to the manufacturer's instructions. (Refer to the hardware requirements.)
Configure the hard disk as drive C with at least a 12-GB partition formatted as FAT32.
Install and Configure Windows XP Professional
Install Windows XP Professional
Tip
To speed up this installation, run SMARTDrive (smartdrv.exe), a utility that ships with Microsoft MS-DOS® version 6.22 and later, prior to running the Windows XP Professional setup program.
Boot the computer by using an MS-DOS disk that loads either CD or network drivers.
Insert the disc containing Microsoft Windows XP Professional into the
CD-ROM/DVD drive, or map a drive to the network share that contains the Windows XP Professional files.
Switch to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM/DVD or network share.
Type winnt, and then press ENTER.
Setup will ask for the path where the Windows XP Professional files are located. Press ENTER to accept the default path displayed, or type the correct path for your computer and then press ENTER.
Windows XP Professional files will be copied to the hard disk.
Follow the prompts to install Windows XP Professional. Use the parameters provided in the following table. Respond to all other installation prompts with defaults or with information appropriate for your computer or location.

Close the User Accounts dialog box, and then close Control Panel.
Add Internet Information Services (IIS)
Insert the Windows XP Professional installation disc into the
CD-ROM/DVD drive, or map a drive letter to the network location that contains the Windows XP Professional installation \i386 folder.
Click start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Add or Remove Programs.
In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Place a check next to Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Next.
If the Files Needed dialog box is displayed, browse to the location of the Windows XP Professional \i386 folder and then click OK.
Note
If the Windows XP Professional installation CD is in your
CD-ROM/DVD drive, you will not see the Files Needed dialog box.
Click Finish.
Close the Add or Remove Programs dialog box.
Set the video display
In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Change the screen resolution.
Set the following options:
Set the Color quality to at least Medium (16 bit).
Set the Screen resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels.
Note
If possible, set the refresh frequency on the monitor to a value greater than 60 Hertz. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties. Click Settings, and then click Advanced. Click Monitor, and then change the Screen refresh rate to any value greater than 60 Hertz from the list control on the Monitor tab.
Install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition
Install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition
Insert the SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition compact disc into the CD-ROM/DVD drive.
On the SQL Server screen, click SQL Server 2000 Components.
On the Install Components screen, click Install Database Server.
Click Next in the following dialog boxes:

In the User Information dialog box, type the appropriate information, and then click Next.
In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes if you agree to the terms.

In the Authentication Mode dialog box, click Next.
In the Start Copying Files dialog box, click Next.

Install Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Edition
Install Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Edition
Insert the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Edition CD into the
CD-ROM/DVD drive.
If required double-click setup.exe.
In the Installation Wizard for Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Edition dialog box, click Next.
If you accept the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the agreement, and then click Next.
Enter your product key, and then click Next.
Click Install Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Edition, and then click Next.
If required, change the folder location for common files, and then click Next.
In the Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Setup dialog box, click Continue, and then click OK.
When prompted for the type of installation, click Typical.
Visual Basic files will be copied to your computer.
When prompted, click Restart Windows.
Clear Install MSDN and click Next. Click Yes to continue without installing Microsoft MSDN®.
In the Server Setups dialog box, click Next.
In the Register Over the Web Now! dialog box, clear Register Now, and then click Finish.
Install and Configure Windows Component Update and
Visual Studio .NET
Install Windows Component Update
Insert Visual Studio .NET CD1 into the CD-ROM/DVD drive.
In the Visual Studio .NET Setup dialog box, click Windows Component Update.
Enter the CD-ROM/DVD drive letter. Remove CD1 and insert the Windows Component Update disc into the CD-ROM/DVD drive. Click OK.
If you accept the terms of the license agreement, click I accept the agreement, and then click Continue.
Click Install Now.
Click Done after Windows Component Update has been installed.
Install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
In the Visual Studio .NET Setup dialog box, click Visual Studio .NET.
Enter the CD-ROM/DVD drive letter. Remove the Windows Component Update CD, insert Visual Studio .NET CD1, and then click OK.
If you accept the licensing agreement, click I accept the agreement. Enter your Product Key, and then click Continue.
On the Options Page, expand the Language Tools tree, and clear the Visual C++® .NET and Visual C#™ .NET check boxes.
Click Install Now.
When prompted, remove CD1, and then insert Visual Studio .NET CD2. Click OK.
When prompted, remove CD2, and then insert Visual Studio .NET CD3. Click OK.
When prompted, remove CD3, and then insert Visual Studio .NET CD4. Click OK.
In the Setup is complete dialog box, click Done.
In the Visual Studio .NET Setup dialog box, click Exit.
Install Visio for Enterprise Architects
Install Visio for Enterprise Architects
Insert the Visio for Enterprise Architects CD-ROM into the CD-ROM/DVD drive.
In the Welcome to Microsoft Visio dialog box, click Next.
Accept the licensing agreement if you agree to the terms.
Click Customize.
In the Visio Installation Location dialog box, click Next. The default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office.
In the Features list, click Visio. Click Run all from My Computer, and then click Install.
Click OK when Visio installation is complete.
Install Course Files
Set the folder options to show operating system files and hidden files
Right-click start, and then click Explore.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click View.
Click Display the contents of system folders.
Click Show hidden files and folders.
Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
Clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.
In the Warning dialog box, click Yes.
Click OK.
Install the course files: lab, practice and demonstration files
Insert the Trainer Materials compact disc into the CD-ROM/DVD drive and close the auto-run window.
Open the StudentCD\Webfiles\Downloads folder on the Trainer Materials compact disc.
Run Allfiles.exe, a self-extracting file.
Install all files to their default locations by clicking Unzip.
Note
By default, course files are installed to the following locations:
Demonstration code files are installed in C:\Program Files\
Msdntrain\2373\DemoCode.
Labs are installed in C:\Program Files\Msdntrain\2373\Labs.
Practices are installed in C:\Program Files\Msdntrain\2373\Practices.
Do not change the default installation paths.
Click OK, and then click Close.
Install the PowerPoint Slides
Install instructor PowerPoint slides
Open the Tools folder on the Trainer Materials compact disc.
Run 2373_ppt.msi.
Note
By default, instructor PowerPoint slides are installed to
C:\Program Files\Msdntrain\2373\Powerpnt.
Install the PowerPoint Viewer
Install PowerPoint Viewer on the instructor computer
Double-click viewer.vbs in the Pptview folder on the Trainer Materials CD-ROM.
Install Courseware Fonts
Install fonts on the instructor computer
In the Tools folder on the Trainer Materials CD-ROM, double-click Fonts.exe.
In the Courseware fonts dialog box, click Yes.
In the Courseware fonts dialog box, click OK.
Install the Macromedia Flash 5.0 Plug-In
Install the Macromedia Flash 5.0 plug-in
In the StudentCD\Flash folder on the Trainer Materials CD-ROM, double-click Flash5A.exe.
In the Flash 5 ActiveX® Control Installer dialog box, click Yes to install the control.
When installation is complete, click OK.
Create the Internet Information Services (IIS) virtual directories
Click start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Administrative Tools.
Double-click Internet Information Services.
Expand computername (where computername is the name of the computer).
Expand Web Sites.
Right-click Default Web Site, point to New, and then click
Virtual Directory.
Complete the Virtual Directory Creation Wizard by using the information in the following table.

On the start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.
In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, enter the following information, and then click OK.

If you accept the licensing agreement, click I accept the agreement, enter your Product Key, and then click Continue.
On the Options page, expand the Language Tools tree, and then clear the Visual C++ .NET and Visual C# .NET check boxes.
Click Install Now.
When prompted, remove CD1, and then insert Visual Studio .NET CD2. Click OK.
When prompted, remove CD2, and then insert Visual Studio .NET CD3. Click OK.

Expand 2373, expand DemoCode, expand Mod07, and then expand LogonDemo.
Right-click Solution, and click Properties.
On the Directory tab, click Create to create an IIS application for this folder, and then click OK.
Repeat steps 8, 9 and 10 to configure the following folders:

Close Internet Information Services.
Create the Cargo database
On the start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.
In the Connect to SQL Server dialog box, enter the following information, and then click OK.

On the File menu, click Open.
Locate the Setup folder on the Trainer Materials CD-ROM, click cargo.sql, and then click Open.
On the Query menu, click Execute, and wait for the script to run.
