Topic: GOING PLACES – PRESENT PERFECT.
Objective: The objective of the lesson is to provide theory about the structure and usage of present perfect. By the end of the lesson students will be able to associate activities with correct usage of this tense. And they will know the sentence structure in present perfect with ‘ever’/’never’.

Warm up | brainstorming | - “Welcome back after the pause! Is the number of you the same? Or maybe someone has left?” -“ I want you to go back to the dialogue. I’ll play the recording for you in a minute. What I want you to do, is to find and underline all expressions containing has or have plus 3rd form of the verb. Do you understand?” – the T plays the recording and then says – “ I hope you have found some expressions I want you to find. Please, each of you will read one expression and I will write some of them on the board.” – the T wants to elicit answers: Have you ever been to Holland? I’ve never been there. I couldn’t find my ticket, but I’ve got it now. Someone’s stolen my passport! I’ve forgotten my purse. I’ve written twenty postcards. I’ve been outside for too long. I’ve never known anyone like you. You’ve eaten too many sweets. -“As you have probably seen, we are going to talk about a new tense. Does any of you know the name of today’s tense?” – the T waits for volunteers, but if there aren’t any, she will say – “ Today’s tense is called present perfect. All the sentences you have found are written in this tense. So who can tell me how do we form this tense? Look at the board and tell me.” – the T wants to elicit answer We use have or has and add 3rd form of the verb. If no one knows the answer, the T will say the rule. |

Presentation | grammar introduction – present perfect | -“Now I’d like you to write down the note: We use the present perfect for: 1) action in the past which has recently finished – you can see the results of the action when you speak, 2) unfinished actions which started in the past and are still true now, 3) past experiences. We form it by using have /has plus 3rd form of the verb. Common expressions: ever, never, recently, lately, just, already, yet, always, still, so far, for, since.” |

Controlled practice | gap-filling | “ Now it’s time to practice. I’d like you to look at exercise 5. Your task is to complete gaps in the sentences using verbs in brackets. Remember to use have or has and 3rd form of the verb. And one more tip. The place of ‘ever/ never’ in a sentence is after the auxiliary verb and before the verb. So please read the whole sentence first and after that try to complete the gap. I’ll help you.” – the T chooses S to do sentences individually. She helps if necessary. | T –S S –T |
