Opowiadanie należy zacząć od przedstawienia miejsca i czasu akcji. W kolejnych akapitach należy opisać wydarzenia, a całość zakończyć posumowaniem, opisem własnych odczuć i reakcji. Staraj się uatrakcyjnić treść poprzez żywe opisy. Opowiadania najczęściej piszemy stosując czasy przeszłe.

Beautiful sunny mornings may sometimes be ghastly. There is always a possibility that something strange and unexpected will happen and what is more it might occur at the most inappropriate moment. And that is exactly what happened to me on a sunny morning.

When I got up I immediately noticed a terrible mess in my room. I could not believe my eyes - all my books, copybooks, papers and CDs were scattered on the floor. I had no idea what had happened. Although I am a rather careless person I was sure I had done up my room the previous evening. There was nobody else at home so this mess was very mysteri­ous. I was shocked and confused and the first thing I wanted to do was to call the police but I did not know what I would tell them. Then I thought that my flat must have been burgled so I decided to check whether the rest of the flat was also in such a state.

It turned out that everything was in its place and nothing was missing. This puzzled me even further. Finally I made the decision to call the police. They told me to keep calm and not to touch anything. While I was waiting for the police to come I decided to have something to drink. Just as I was making a cup of coffee I heard the doorbell ring and thought to myself -"That must be the police." But as I opened the door I saw my friends who laughed noticing my puzzled expression. I knew at once that they had played a trick on me but I still did not know how they managed to get to my flat when I was asleep.

The mystery was soon revealed when they showed me my front door key which I thought I had lost in the pub the night before. I was so happy that I would not have to change the locks that I forgot them the joke they played on me. Having cleared the mess we went out to celebrate the hap­py ending to that terrible morning. But first I made sure that I had locked the front door carefully and the key was secured in my pocket.
