Diagnostic function of evaluation - Properly organized evaluation and testing of learners' achievements gives T. an opportunity to get a clear idea of his/her ss' progress in FL learning, and it also provides info on the effectiveness of the methods and techniques T. uses in class. We have a distinction between : the individual diagnosis and the group diagnosis.
5. What is the characteristic of individual diagnosis ?
Helps ss realize witch part of the material they are good at and with must be trained.
They get to know their strengths and weaknesses are. It helps use their self- control and autonomy.

Systematic evaluation or testing is to get our ss used to constant preparation for the lessons, and make them treat learning at home seriously.

If the type of control is varied (T does not only tests vocabulary or grammar) ss will have to master all skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing.
8. What is the purpose of end-of-term evaluation ?
The main purpose have is to mark in and classify then form the best to the poorest, with regard to the specific language skills.
Such a control must be objective. For that type of evaluation teachers usually use specially prepared objective tests so called : teacher-made tests, they are not prepared statistically but their evaluation tools are as objective as in case of verified and statistic tests use for summative evaluation.
This type of evaluation should also display diagnostic and educational functions.
9. How is summative evaluation carried out ?
It is carried out trough quite formal tests and exams eg. Nature examination, competence test. It is results allow to judge to what extend the syllabus main objectives and direction where accomplished in a given school, town, province and the whole country.

It can be the source of into for the school's headmasters parents and the educational board on excellent or poor teachers, schools or classes.
